Splendour Festival will close after 18 years this July 18-19, with The Wombats, Snow Patrol, Editors, Primal Scream and Craig David headlining the final weekend. DHP Family managing director George Akins cited rising event costs and market pressures. The festival has helped launch local artists including Jake Bugg and ALT BLK ERA, handed out 150,000+ discounted tickets to residents and created countless memories for Nottingham families. Nottingham ranks sixth among England's best areas to launch a business, according to MRPeasy's analysis of Office for National Statistics data. Since 2022, 3,175 businesses opened locally while 2,925 closed – a ratio of 14 openings per 13 closures, above the national average of 10:11. Q3 2023 was particularly strong at 1.471:1. City of London tops the study, with Westminster, Kingston upon Hull and Stevenage rounding out the top five. | Source

Congratulations to Simon Tuckwell, owner of Nottingham's metal-themed salon, who has been nominated for celebrity hairstylist of the year at the Pro Hair Awards 2026 (September 7 in Covent Garden). The "Heavy Metal Hairdresser" has styled Slipknot's Corey Taylor, Avenged Sevenfold and numerous other Download Festival artists in his 24-year career. Tuckwell, 38, said the nomination was "mind-blowing" - he's the only finalist outside London and the south-east, proving alternative salons can offer premium experiences too. | Source
