🚝 £18million upgrade proposed for Castle Line rail route to Lincoln
A proposed £18million upgrade to the Castle Line between Nottingham, Newark and Lincoln aims to cut journey times and boost the local economy. The route currently takes around an hour with only 10% of trips made by train. Midlands Connect has submitted a new report to the Department for Transport proposing speed increases from 50mph to 75mph, with long-term plans to double frequency to two trains per hour. The group estimates £3.60 in regional benefits for every £1 invested. Rushcliffe MP James Naish backed the proposal, calling the Castle Line critical for connecting suburban and rural communities to jobs and services. If approved, work could start in April 2026 with completion by summer 2028. | Source
🔨 Former care resident creates life skills centre for young people
A local campaigner who grew up in care is converting part of a vacant building in Sneinton into a life skills training centre for children and young people in the care system. Terry Galloway, who was moved over 100 times before settling in Nottingham aged 25, runs an estate agency providing supported accommodation for care leavers. The ground floor facility on Carlton Road features mock-up kitchen, bathroom and outdoor areas where young people can learn over 150 practical skills including basic maintenance, cleaning and administrative tasks. Galloway is funding the project himself with donations from local businesses including Howdens and Travis Perkins. Amazing work, Terry! | Source

🍽️ First Table booking service brings 50% food discounts to Nottingham restaurants for early diners
A dining platform offering 50% off food bills launches in Nottingham on Monday, connecting restaurants with early diners willing to book the first table of the evening. First Table has operated successfully in New Zealand, Australia and 13 UK cities, connecting 2,900 restaurants with over two million diners. Fifteen Nottingham restaurants have already joined the scheme including Passan's, Pici, Piccalilli, and Bar Gigi. To unlock the discount, diners pay a small booking fee to reserve the earliest tables of the night for two to four people. The idea is to help restaurants fill typically quieter early evening slots while giving diners access to discounted meals - sounds like a win-win! The First Table app is available on the Apple app store or Google Play store and you can keep up to date with the latest on their website.
