⛸️ Torvill and Dean receive damehood and knighthood in New Year Honours

Nottingham Ice Skating legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean have been awarded a damehood and knighthood in the New Year Honours for services to ice skating and voluntary work following their retirement. The 68 and 67-year-old skaters, who won Olympic gold in Sarajevo in 1984, completed their final tour this year after over 50 years of skating. The duo were made OBEs in 2000, with fans calling for further recognition for 25 years. Sir Christopher confirmed there'll be no return to the ice, saying "the body's had over 50 years." | Source

💷 Clifton's £20m Pride in Place funding to transform playing fields and high streets

Clifton is set for dramatic transformation with £20 million government funding over the next decade, with the first tranche arriving in April 2026. The Pride in Place pilot scheme, confirmed in September, will focus on four priority areas: high streets, Clifton playing fields and pavilion, Flower Park, and youth provision and community spaces. Pastor Stephen Hackney, chair of the neighbourhood board formed in March 2025, says decisions will be well-rooted with community consultation to ensure longevity rather than spending "for the sake of it." The board includes representatives from Farnborough Academy, Nottingham Trent University, NCHA, police, NHS and diverse community figures. | Source

🌉 New River Trent bridge at Colwick backed by £1m feasibility study

A new feasibility study has backed plans for a road bridge over the River Trent at Colwick, aiming to reduce congestion by connecting the A612 to either the A46 or A52. The £1 million study funded by East Midlands Combined County Authority has graded the project as "good" against county council criteria. Conservative councillor Mike Adams, who's campaigned for the crossing for six years, says significant funds are needed to build it, with work continuing to get the project shovel-ready. Currently ten miles separate Lady Bay Bridge from the next road crossing at Gunthorpe, with Nottingham's last bridge built decades ago. | Source
