🏢 New boundary option explored for expanded Nottingham city limits
A new proposal for expanding Nottingham's boundaries is being explored, which would see the city combine with surrounding suburbs rather than entire boroughs. Broxtowe Borough Council leader Milan Radulovic revealed the option would include West Bridgford, Beeston, Hucknall, Arnold and Carlton joining the city. Nottingham currently serves 328,000 people at the centre of a built-up area of over 750,000, with many workers living in suburbs but unable to vote in city elections. The government has set a deadline of November 28 for councils to submit final plans for local government reorganisation, though some councillors have called for the proposals to be put to a local referendum. | Source
🪴 Forgotten Wollaton Park garden transformed into sensory space by local volunteers
The Walled Garden at Wollaton Park has opened to the public following an 18-month restoration project by volunteers. The Victorian garden, built in 1880, had been derelict for years and was covered in ivy, brambles and graffiti until locals discovered it in 2007. A group of volunteers, many joining during the pandemic, have transformed the space into a sensory garden growing fruit, vegetables and aromatic plants. The garden was officially opened on July 3 by Sheriff of Nottingham and Wollaton Councillor Zafran Khan.
Tours run every Thursday until late October, with stalls selling produce and refreshments available for donations to the Walled Garden Fund. | More Info
