🆓 Heritage Open Days: Free history and culture across Nottinghamshire
Heritage Open Days - England's largest history and culture festival - takes over September 11-20 across Nottinghamshire. The festival provides free entry to guided tours, exhibitions and creative workshops celebrating local heritage and hidden gems. Whether you're into literature, archaeology, history or local culture, there's almost certainly something for you. Check the link for full programme of events across venues here.
🗳️ West Bridgford pushes for town council after 50 years without one
A campaign group is pushing to establish a town council for West Bridgford – the only area without one for 50 years. They need 2,500 signatures (7.5% of electorate) to trigger a formal Community Governance Review, which will be discussed at the next full council meeting on 17 September. Steve Calvert (Labour councillor) says it would protect the area's "distinctiveness" amid local government reorganisation. You can read more | Source
⚽️ MPs support plans for 52,500-capacity City Ground
All three Nottingham MPs – Nadia Whittome, Alex Norris and Lilian Greenwood – have backed plans to expand the City Ground to 52,500 capacity. The stadium currently holds ~30,000, but six consecutive sold-out seasons mean thousands of fans can't get tickets each week. The MPs say it's a historic opportunity boosting the local economy and creating well-paid jobs. The agreement has not yet been completed or signed, while the principal stadium applications remain awaiting a decision from Rushcliffe Borough Council. You can see a round up of the redevelopment work here.

🍺 Castle Rock Brewery moving to historic Old Basford site
Castle Rock Brewery is relocating to Old Basford (former Murphy & Son site) during 2027 after securing planning approval. The building was originally Prince of Wales Brewery (1891) – brewing will now return to the site after 100+ years! The move allows new brewing equipment, improved efficiency and an expanded beer range while staying firmly in Nottingham. 2027 marks 50 years as pub group and 30 years as brewery for Castle Rock, who are inviting customers to share memories via castlerockbrewery.co.uk/remember-when for anniversary celebrations.
