🏹 Last chance to influence Nottinghamshire's biggest government restructure in decades

Nearly 10,000 people have already shared their thoughts on the biggest shake-up of local government in over 50 years, but there's still time to have your say before the September 14 deadline. The government-mandated review aims to replace the current nine councils with just two new "unitary authorities" to streamline services and cut costs. Right now, services are delivered differently depending where you live - Nottingham City operates as one authority while Nottinghamshire has the county council plus several district councils. Two main options are being considered for the new boundaries, with the final decision expected in summer 2026. The six-week survey at www.lgrnotts.org gives residents and businesses the chance to influence what the new structure will look like. | Source

🏰 Heritage Open Days offers free access to Nottingham's hidden gems

England's largest festival of history and culture festival is back, throwing open doors across Nottinghamshire from September 12-21 with completely free entry to normally closed venues. This year's Heritage Open Days includes guided walks around University of Nottingham's historic campus, tower tours at St Mary's Church, and rare access to the Grade II* listed Adams Building in the Lace Market amongst others. The festival celebrates local heritage and community history with something for everyone, from family-friendly activities to behind-the-scenes archive tours. More events are being added all the time - visit the Heritage Open Days website for the latest.

👗 Topshop makes Victoria Centre comeback after four-year absence

The fashion brand that disappeared from high streets four years ago is making a comeback, and Nottingham shoppers will be among the first to get their hands on it again. John Lewis is bringing Topshop back to 32 stores nationwide from February, including the Victoria Centre location, as part of efforts to attract younger customers. It's the first time since 2021 that UK shoppers can browse Topshop in physical stores after the brand's previous standalone shop in Victoria Centre and Outfit store at Riverside closed when parent company Arcadia collapsed. Online giant Asos bought the brand and has been running it digitally, but customer feedback shows people are "desperate" to see Topshop back in stores. The move marks a major investment in fashion for John Lewis as it continues its transformation strategy. | Source

🍹 Nottinghamshire rum distillery offers locals chance to buy stake in expanding business

DropWorks, the award-winning rum distillery based on the Welbeck Estate in Sherwood Forest, is launching a crowdfunding campaign giving locals the opportunity to invest in the fast-growing business. Founded two years ago by globally acclaimed mixologist Lewis Hayes, the company now supplies over 400 high-end venues including Michelin-starred restaurants and a third of the UK's top 50 bars. CEO Graham Appleyard believes rum is about to have its "gin moment" with major growth expected, making this an exciting time to get involved. The distillery produces everything from unaged clear rum to barrel-aged varieties, positioning itself to disrupt the £20bn global rum market. Interested investors can visit for tastings and tours, with the more information available here.
