🛍️ Nottingham named as bargain capital of the UK with 127 charity shops
Nottingham has been named the UK's bargain capital with 127 charity shops, equating to more than 4.4 shops per square mile! Research by the Co-operative Bank found nearly half of people in England and Wales are increasingly turning to charity shops due to the cost of living crisis, none more so than here in Nottingham. The city also boasts 12 antique fairs and 43 car boot sales, making it ideal for bargain hunters. With Nottingham city centre featuring multiple White Rose stores and 16 other charity shops near Victoria Centre alone, it sits ahead of Norwich in second with four charity shops per square mile, followed by Bristol, Southampton and Oxford. | Source
🥊 Martial arts gym plans relocation to Colwick Road industrial unit
Local martial arts favourite, Spirit Dojo Legacy, have submitted plans to Nottingham City Council to relocate to an industrial unit on Daleside Road near Colwick Road. The plans propose no external changes to the building next to the railway line, but will feature space for a gym, training equipment, as well as an office and kitchen area. The application now awaits consideration by council planning officers, with more information about the gym’s opening date and membership options available soon. | Source
🎾 Gedling tennis facilities back in use after £113,000 refurbishment
Great news for local tennis enthusiasts - Four public tennis courts at Conway Park in Carlton have reopened following a £113,000 refurbishment by Gedling Borough Council and the Lawn Tennis Association. The courts have been resurfaced and repainted with government funding support. Free tennis sessions, leagues and friendly competitions will be held at the renovated facilities. Council leader John Clarke said the timing coincided perfectly with Wimbledon coverage and the new facilities will benefit community wellbeing by encouraging people to be healthier and more active. | Source
