🔨 How Nottingham became the Warhammer capital of the world
Nottingham has transformed from a city of declining coal mines and lace factories into the global capital of tabletop wargaming. Games Workshop, maker of Warhammer 40,000, is now the city's biggest private employer after Boots, with market capitalisation above £6 billion and over 3,000 employees across factories, design studios and its Lenton headquarters. Players travel from as far as Rome and Portsmouth to visit Warhammer World, with the tabletop gaming industry experiencing a cultural boom fueled by Henry Cavill's upcoming Amazon series and post-pandemic hunger for in-person socialising. 🎾 Arnold tennis coach with rare condition features in Vogue Philippines
Alice Dyer, 20, from Arnold coaches children aged three to ten in wheelchair tennis at Nottingham Tennis Centre while modeling for brands including Vogue Philippines, Wimbledon and Zalando. Living with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome causing joint pain and extreme fatigue, she discovered wheelchair tennis at 14 after being unable to participate in school PE. The sport gave her a "feeling of freedom" and connected her to different people. Her latest Vogue shoot celebrating diversity came as a surprise when her dad screamed her name after discovering the photos. While noting the modelling industry is making moves with representation, Alice says there's still a long way to go, particularly around accessible clothing. | Source
✈️ Historic RAF hangars could become eight-court padel facility
wo Grade II listed hangars at Hucknall Aerodrome that once developed secret wartime technologies including the Merlin engine and Flying Bedstead could become an eight-court padel facility. Built in 1916 and used by RAF and Rolls-Royce until the airfield closed in 1971, the hangars are currently used for storage by events firm Mellors Group. Plans submitted to Ashfield District Council would accommodate up to 32 players, operating primarily 9am-5pm weekdays with 39 parking spaces and cycle storage. The conversion would repair the existing roof, metal doors and render while fixing the great hangar doors open behind a new mesh facade, creating changing rooms, storage and a mezzanine viewing platform. | Source
