🏆 Nottingham ranked among Europe’s top 100 cities in new 2025 index

Nottingham has been ranked 97th in a new list of Europe’s top 100 cities for 2025. The list, compiled by Resonance Consultancy, considers 32 factors including quality of life, culture and economy. Nottingham was praised for turning its image around and for major investments like the £33m revamp of Nottingham Castle. | Source

📈 Progress made as City Council tackles financial crisis, report finds

Nottingham City Council is beginning to see results from major financial reforms following its effective bankruptcy in 2023. A new report by government-appointed commissioners says the council has made “much positive progress,” and that some of the changes are already “bearing fruit.” The commissioners, led by Tony McArdle OBE, praised the council’s “clear direction” and said their relationship with senior officers had been “constructive”. The next commissioner update is due this autumn. | Source

✅ Broad Marsh £30m demolition approved as major regeneration moves forward

Nottingham City Council has given the green light to a £30m demolition plan at Broad Marsh. Once cleared, the site will house around 1,000 homes, 20,000m² of employment space, and a new public park, creating up to 2,000 jobs. | Source

🎾 Empty factory to become Nottingham’s newest padel tennis centre

A major new padel tennis centre is coming to Nottingham after the City Council approved plans to convert a vacant warehouse in Colwick. The facility will take over the former Glenair thermal products factory on Private Road No. 2, just off the A612. The transformation will include seven indoor padel courts, two outdoor courts, a fitness gym, warm-up areas, a café, and lounge-style social spaces.

The operators also hope to build a community around the venue, hosting tournaments, coaching sessions, and social events. Work is expected to begin later this year. | Source

👀 This year’s Nottingham City Council AGM to be live-streamed

For the first time ever, Nottingham City Council’s Annual General Meeting will be live-streamed on YouTube, allowing Notts residents to watch the election of the Lord Mayor and other key decisions from home.

On 12 May, the AGM will be broadcast live online, marking a step forward in transparency and accessibility for Nottingham’s local government. The full agenda and more information on how to watch is available on the Council’s website. | More Info

🍸 Mesa team set to open new tapas and cocktail bar in Hockley

Kevin and Naomi Wright, the father-daughter duo behind Mesa and Hockley Kitchen, are opening a new bar named Vaso in Hockley! Inspired by global travels, it’ll focus on intimate dining, local suppliers and a relaxed “wine-first” atmosphere where customers can also order fantastic tapas dishes. The bar is set to open this Autumn - we’ll keep you updated with the latest!

📍 Loose Ends bar opens in city centre with castle views and hidden garden

Loose Ends, a new cocktail bar from the team behind 400 Rabbits, has opened on Friar Lane! It features a hidden garden, stunning views of the castle, and a 20-strong cocktail menu made with house-crafted syrups. Definitely one to check out if you’re looking for a fresh spot to grab a cocktail in the city centre.
