✅ Old Market Square getting £3.5m green makeover
Old Market Square is getting a £3.5m makeover to transform it into a greener, more welcoming space. The broken fountains (out of action since 2022) are coming down entirely, replaced with a new water feature council leader Neghat Khan promises will make people want to visit. More trees and seating are planned as part of Nottingham's vision to become a "Forest City" by 2030. Demolition starts January after Winter Wonderland closes. | Source
🤖 Deliveroo robots launching in Nottingham pilot scheme
Deliveroo and Coco Robotics are bringing robot deliveries to Nottingham as part of a UK expansion (launching Canary Wharf this October, then Nottingham). The fully electric robots operate at walking pace, safely navigating city streets to make short-distance deliveries with zero-emission and reduced congestion. The rollout will create skilled jobs in operations, maintenance and logistics plus new depot and charging facilities. | Source
🏊♂️ Free swimming for under-16s returns this October half-term
Free swimming's back for October half-term (October 18 – November 1) at all six Active Nottingham leisure centres – Clifton, Djanogly, Harvey Hadden, Ken Martin, Southglade and Victoria. £197,000 investment backed by the council means under-16s living in Nottingham can swim for free with weekend sessions available at selected centres. Support available for non-swimmers or kids lacking confidence. Under-8s must be accompanied by an adult or someone 16+, who get in free. Book via Active Nottingham's website, app or visit a centre.
