⚽️ Nottingham Forest set to replace Crystal Palace in Europa League
Huge news for Forest who are set to be promoted to the Europa League after Crystal Palace were demoted to the Conference League by UEFA. The ruling stems from Palace breaching multi-club ownership rules, as American businessman John Textor owns stakes in both Palace and French club Lyon, who also qualified for the Europa League. Forest, who finished seventh in the Premier League last season, are expected to replace FA Cup winners Palace in the more prestigious competition due UEFA's rules preventing clubs owned by the same person competing in the same European tournament. Lyon takes precedence over Palace due to their higher league position, leaving Forest to benefit from the vacancy created by Palace's demotion. What a season it’s been! | Source
🚧 Maid Marian Way project enters final stage with four weeks of overnight works
The final phase of the Maid Marian Way regeneration project begins on Monday 21 July with overnight resurfacing works. Roads connecting to the Maid Marian Way junction will be resurfaced during four weeks of overnight works, Monday to Thursday from 10pm to 6am. Road closures and diversions will be in place, with routes available on the Transport Nottingham website. The junction now operates with permanent signals that went live on 14 June. Final works include completing swales for rainwater management, a new rain garden, and finishing touches on paving and benches. Over forty new trees will be planted this winter during their dormant season. The project, funded by the government's Future High Streets Fund, includes improved public realm, safer pedestrian and cycling routes, and added green spaces designed to improve the city gateway experience. | More Info
⛳️ Mapperley Golf Club boss “confident” area will not be redeveloped
The chairman of Mapperley Golf Club says he is confident the site will not be developed for housing after being included in Gedling Borough Council's draft development plan. Paul Cookson said the Plains Road site remains economically unviable due to land and flooding issues, similar to when a previous development attempt was rejected in 2011.
The golf club, owned by the borough council and currently leased until 2030, is classified as 'safeguarded land' not available for development. However, under the new draft local plan, it could be allocated for housing as the council faces increased housing targets. Cookson has secured the club's financial future for two years to address concerns about lease renewal. The site was previously threatened by plans for 1,900 homes over a decade ago, but a 4,000-person campaign successfully opposed the development. The draft local plan will be discussed at Thursday's cabinet meeting. | Source

🍽️ Planning application submitted for Castle Road restaurant and apartment conversion
Plans have been submitted to convert the ground floor of historic Mortimer House on Castle Road into a café or restaurant, with a two-bedroom apartment above. The grade II listed building, designed by renowned Gothic Revival architect Watson Fothergill, sits between Fothergills and The Castle pub near Nottingham Castle. Sumukha Ltd, a real estate company, has applied to convert the vacant former printing business premises while preserving the 19th century building's character. The proposal would utilise the existing footprint with only a new entrance added in period style. Planning agents argue the scheme would help preserve the Watson Fothergill-designed building and meet local needs for mixed housing in the established retail and residential area. Nottingham City Council put the entire Mortimer House up for sale in January with an asking price of over £1 million. The planning application awaits consideration by the council's planning department. | Source
