👑 Prince Harry delivers £1.1m boost to Nottingham youth charities
The Duke of Sussex visited St Ann's Community Recording Studios to announce a major donation to BBC Children in Need, with funds specifically earmarked for grassroots organizations in Nottingham tackling youth violence. The donation will support groups like CRS and Epic Partners who provide safe spaces and mentorship for young people affected by knife crime. Prince Harry has been working on youth violence prevention for 15 years and chose Nottingham as the focus after previous visits showed him the city's resilience and community spirit. | Source
🔧 College opens £1m engineering hub to tackle skills shortage
Nottingham College has launched a new Engineering and Electrical Centre at its Ruddington campus, featuring four classrooms, workshops and a testing lab with capacity for over 300 apprentices. The investment responds to industry demand for engineers in manufacturing, electrical sustainability and renewable energy, including new skills like electric vehicle charging point installation. The facility offers flexible training cycles and welcomes apprentices of all ages to help bridge the growing skills gap in the sector. | Source
🌱 Floating ecosystems bring wildlife back to city centre canal
New artificial reed beds made from recycled plastic and coconut fiber have been installed along the Nottingham and Beeston Canal to create natural habitats in the urban environment. The floating ecosystems, filled with pollinator-friendly plants, aim to attract fish, invertebrates, swans and other wildlife to the 200-year-old waterway. The project received funding from the government's £25m Species Survival Fund, with around 200 square meters already installed and plans for expansion across East Midlands canals. | Source
