🚲 Lots of free events at Nottingham Bikeworks this summer!

Nottingham Bikeworks in Sneinton is hosting the Big Bike Revival this summer with free bike fixing sessions and learn-to-fix workshops funded by Cycling UK. Weekly Free Fix Thursdays run throughout school holidays, offering general check-overs and minor repairs at no cost, plus bike kitchens where staff help you fix your own bike, mini maintenance classes and family fix-alongs. Last year, over half of participants felt safer cycling after events, 86% reported improved mental wellbeing and 61% became more physically active. 🏹Nottingham’s underground network officially reaches 1,000 caves

Nottingham has officially reached 1,000 confirmed caves beneath its streets, reinforcing its claim as the European City of Caves with no rival on the continent! City Archaeologist Scott Lomax’s 15-year research combines historic documents, old maps, archaeological investigations and redevelopment discoveries, finding many caves previously thought destroyed survive hidden beneath modern buildings. The caves served as homes, storage, workshops, tanneries, maltings, beer cellars and World War air raid shelters, revealing everyday life across centuries. Lomax says he’s confident more caves remain undiscovered as research continues into their age, original uses and preservation for future generations. | Source

👏10-year-old collects £23k in donations for Bleasby primary school

Congratulations to Grace, 10, who has collected over £23,000 worth of donations for Bleasby C of E Primary School after establishing a students fundraising committee in January. She wrote to companies receiving 700+ books from Penguin and Waterstones, board games, gardening tools, scarecrows, outdoor benches and art supplies. When storage ran out, Ikea donated a bookshelf. Grace received the school’s ‘extra mile’ trophy and High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire award for community service, planning to continue fundraising after leaving for secondary school this summer. | Source
