🔒 Love locks to be removed from Wilford Suspension Bridge over safety concerns

Severn Trent announced this week that the love locks on Wilford Suspension Bridge connecting The Meadows and West Bridgford will be removed by 6 October over safety concerns about the structure's weight capacity. The water supplier said the padlocks, placed by couples and families as symbols of lasting love, risk making the bridge unsafe for pedestrians. If you’ve got a lock on the bridge you want to keep, make sure you collect it before the deadline when bridge work begins! Severn Trent acknowledged the "lovely meaning" of the locks and promised to honour their legacy through a special project with a local business - more details on exactly what this will look like to come. | Source

💥 Decommissioned power station towers demolished in record-breaking operation

Eight cooling towers at the decommissioned Cottam Power Station have been demolished in what contractors say was the largest simultaneous cooling tower demolition ever carried out. The 114-metre structures were flattened on Thursday as part of ongoing clearance work at the EDF-owned site. The coal-fired complex opened in 1968 with capacity to generate electricity for 3.7 million homes and was originally designed for 30-year operation, but remained active until closing permanently in 2019. The demolition was the ninth such event at the site during phased clearance operations. The video is well worth a watch - you can check it out here.

🕶️ Viral Ibiza Final Boss meme immortalised in Nottingham street art

A mural tribute to the viral "Ibiza final boss" meme has appeared on a wall near Nottingham's bus station entrance and made national news this week! Graffiti artist Michael Mooney, known as Dak, spray painted the image after finding the viral video "hilarious". The Basford artist said the stance reminded him of B-Boy hip-hop dancers from the 1980s commonly used in early graffiti. The original video of 26-year-old Jack Kay from Newcastle dancing at an Ibiza club has received 24 million views, with companies like Greggs and EasyJet creating marketing parodies. Kay now has over 120,000 Instagram followers and 800,000 TikTok likes. Nottingham City Council confirmed the mural location is a designated free space where anyone can paint, whilst Dak has said the artwork was created "just for fun, to amuse people". | Source

🍽️ Notts Street Food Festival returns to Trent Bridge for August bank holiday

The Notts Street Food Festival returns to Trent Bridge on next Sunday during the August Bank Holiday weekend, coinciding with Notts Outlaws' 50-over match against Surrey. Following May's successful event that attracted 3,000 people, the festival features 18 food traders offering diverse cuisines, five bars, DJ entertainment and a live steel pan band! Tickets cost £6 for adults and £3 concessions for either the 12pm-4pm or 4pm-8pm sessions, with both including cricket access. The cricket match begins at 11am, though organisers note the game may be concluding as the evening session starts. Nottinghamshire members receive free game entry but must claim tickets in advance. Aaron Wilson from Notts Street Food said the venue provides an ideal backdrop combining top-quality food with One Day Cup cricket entertainment. Don’t miss out on one of the best foodie events of the summer! | More Info
