🏝️ Island Quarter regeneration to gain "renewed momentum" in 2026
The Island Quarter, Nottingham's largest regeneration site bought by developer Conygar in 2016, will gain "renewed momentum" in 2026 after visible progress slowed following Winfield Court's completion in August 2024. Managing director Chris Ware says positive conversations over the past year have helped adapt plans for the 36-acre former Boots Island site between London Road and Manvers Street. While the first phase opened in 2022 with Binks Yard and Cleaver & Wake, and planning permission was granted for a science lab building in 2023 and 394-bed student block in December 2024, construction hasn't started on either. Surveys are now underway to prepare for restoring three historic warehouses after the project missed out on £17 million levelling up funding in 2023. Despite pressures facing larger developments, Ware remains confident in the long-term vision, with encouraging interest from prospective occupiers and new plans expected to progress before summer. | Source
🚂 Beeston Station completes £250k revamp with new cycle shelter
East Midlands Railway has completed a £250,000 revamp of Beeston Station including resurfaced forecourt, new cycle shelter, additional seating and improved lighting. The Grade II-listed facade dating from 1847 was repaired and redecorated, with a dedicated area created for station volunteers. A new garden with planters and bird nesting boxes boosts biodiversity, supported by the Railway Heritage Trust and Friends of Beeston Station. The station is the earliest surviving example of a Midland Railway building in their signature style that became common across the network. | Source
🎾 Five-court Padelplex targeting summer 2026 opening
Plans for a £1 million padel complex have been submitted for the Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club car park on Redfield Way, adjacent to Showcase Cinema. Padelplex's first UK site will feature five covered outdoor courts plus hospitality pavilion with reception, snack bar, indoor seating and changing facilities. Founded by Nottingham hotelier Richard Johal, 200 Degrees coffee founder Rob Darby and former England cricketer James Taylor, the development targets summer 2026 opening if approved by Nottingham City Council. Padel, one of the UK's fastest-growing sports, is played in doubles on enclosed courts about a third the size of tennis courts. All founders are from Nottingham and wanted their first complex in their home city. | Source
