The news we’ve all been wanting to hear! After delays, The new Waterside Bridge connecting Sneinton and Lady Bay opens to pedestrians and cyclists on June 2! There will be a community fun day scheduled for June 14 featuring free activities, food stalls and performances on both sides of the bridge. This is Nottingham's first new river crossing since Clifton Bridge in 1958 and long overdue! Executive member Linda Woodings says schoolchildren from the closest schools will help cut the ribbon celebrating the new bridge opening. | Source

Long Stairs in the Lace Market opens to visitors today 2-4pm after an eight-year restoration. Volunteers raised £20,000 for clearance and safety work on the medieval steps believed to be at least 500 years old, which once linked High Pavement with Narrow Marsh before 1930s slum clearance partially destroyed them. The upper flight of 32 steps is now accessible, though the lower flight with approximately 12 remaining steps stays gated. Blue plaque and street signs were also installed before full restoration began in May 2025. | Source

Over 80 social groups, schools and care homes are creating a community quilt for Framework representing 25 years ending homelessness, with the charity calling for more participants. The 250 individual panels will be professionally stitched together as a tribute to 250,000 lives changed, with free starter packs available for individuals, families, schools and organisations. The artwork debuts at Southwell Minster's Carol Service in December before appearing at Lincoln Cathedral and a Nottingham city centre location.
