🏹 Nottingham boundary expanding under council shake-up

This week it was announced that Nottingham's boundary is expanding as parts of Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe merge with the city under a major local government shake-up. A new "Greater Nottingham Council" will manage all services, while a second "Nottinghamshire Council" covers the rest of the county. Shadow elections take place May 2027, with full powers transferred in 2028. | Source

☀️ Riverside Festival could return next summer

Nottingham City Council is aiming to bring back the Riverside Festival in August 2027 after it was scaled back in 2024 due to budget cuts and cancelled in 2025. Councillor David Mellen says improved finances mean the popular free family event could return with a "Robin Hood theme". No fireworks this time – the council is considering its carbon emissions policy instead. It's a chance to fill the void left by Splendour's final festival this year so watch this space! | Source

🙌 Our Marian exhibition celebrates Nottingham's legendary figure

BACKLIT gallery launched "Our Marian" yesterday (July 18), celebrating Maid Marian as a symbol of collective memory rather than Robin Hood's footnote. A public bronze sculpture by artist Alicja Biała was unveiled the same day at Maid Marian Way roundabout, with nearly 300 community members participating in workshops exploring medieval making traditions. The free exhibition runs July 18 - August 8, featuring sculpture, film, textile and fashion alongside local contributions. You can read all about the exhibition and book your place on Backlit’s website.
