⚽️ Trinity Square big screen shows major sports events until September

You may have already seen the big screen that been installed in Trinity Square - Nottingham City Council have confirmed it will stay in place over the summer to broadcast major sporting events for free until September. The screen, positioned next to the Corner House, will show events including the Women's Euros, England International Cricket, Formula 1 and the Tour de France. The Council have said it has already generated positive feedback after showing the Wimbledon finals and hopes it will attract more visitors to the city centre. The screen will remain in place until after the Women's Rugby World Cup Final on Saturday, September 27th. | Source

🚎 Nottingham public transport to receive £3.2million funding boost

Great news for Nottingham's public transport network which will see more than £3.2m of external funding in 2025/26 through the East Midlands Combined County Authority. The funding supports the Bus Service Improvement Plan developed with Nottinghamshire County Council and local operators. The investment will continue support for care leavers with Robin Hood travel cards, protect at-risk bus services, and maintain the Commuter Discount Scheme and free pre-9.30am travel for mobility card holders.

Funding will keep discounted fares for 19-21 year olds and complement £4.9million of infrastructure investment in electric buses, supporting the city's 2028 carbon neutral target. The package includes a new Travel Safe Partnership with Transport Safety Officers and operational support for bus stations, park and ride sites and smart ticketing systems. | Source

🍴 Nottingham selected for UK's first public restaurant pilot scheme

Nottingham will pilot the UK's first public restaurant as part of research evaluating whether subsidised dining can improve public health and wellbeing. The DISHED project, led by the Institute of Development Studies with the University of Nottingham, will open pilot restaurants in Nottingham and Dundee in spring 2026. The restaurants will operate like public infrastructure such as libraries, with government support keeping costs accessible for everyone.

The 14-month pilot will offer nutritious meals at affordable prices using locally produced food supporting sustainable farming practices. The project aims to tackle food inequality and support NHS 10-year plan goals, drawing on international examples from Denmark, Brazil and Poland. Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, Thriving Nottingham and FareShare Midlands are collaborating on the project. | Source
