💦 Old Market Square fountains could return within a year
Nottingham City Council aims to switch the Old Market Square fountains back on within a year after four years of closure due to water leaking into the electrical control room below. Deputy leader Ethan Radford says he's sure the council can find money for the repair as part of a £25 million investment package including Council House clean-up and other "pride in place" projects. The seven fountains, introduced after a 2007 revamp, have been closed since 2022, with former leader David Mellen previously saying funding constraints could take years to resolve. The council's extra £10 million government settlement has turned a predicted £1 million underspend into £11 million, with Radford wanting residents to see tangible differences in city cleanliness, safety, roads and parks. | Source
☕️ Woman becomes "richest in the world on paper" after coffee shop error
Sophie Downing, 29, was handed a receipt showing over £63 quadrillion remaining on her £10 gift card after buying a matcha latte at 200 Degrees. The business owner says she's enjoying being the richest woman in the world on paper while it lasts, after staff seemed confused by the till displaying a figure they'd never seen before. A 200 Degrees spokesperson explained an administrative error saw the gift card number entered into the wrong part of the till instead of the card value. Downing was only charged correctly and her actual balance was accurate, with staff giving her the astronomical receipt as a souvenir before providing the correct one. | Source
📚 Rare Harry Potter proof edition sells for £6,000 at Nottingham auction
An uncorrected proof edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets sold for £6,000 at Arthur Johnson and Sons auction on Saturday. The book, brought from a West Bridgford house for valuation, is particularly rare because it was printed before JK Rowling hit peak fame, meaning fewer disposable review copies were kept. Uncorrected proofs are typically printed in small numbers for reviewers before wider release. Old Potter editions continue proving valuable, with a Philosopher's Stone first edition selling for £36,000 in November 2024, another saved from a bin fetching £21,000, and one bought for 13p earning its owner £11,000. | Source

The couple, who opened in 1998 after over two decades in fashion, previously worked with Queen's Freddie Mercury, The Rolling Stones, The Police and Pamela Anderson. | Source
