🍸 Market Square House rooftop bar transformation plans revealed

New images show how Market Square House, the 13-storey 1970s building overlooking Old Market Square, could be transformed into a mixed-use scheme combining leisure, hospitality and workspace. The lower three floors would become restaurants and leisure uses, while a rooftop bar would offer views across the city. Upper floors would retain office space with conventional and co-working options. Built in 1973 with almost 65,000 sq ft floorplate, the building occupies a prominent corner at St James Street and Beastmarket Hill but has become dated. The scheme aims to activate the landmark throughout day and evening. | Source

⚽️ Nottingham referee receives FA recognition for 60 years of service

Howard Bevan, 77, has been presented with an engraved gold-whistle trophy recognizing 60 years officiating approximately 4,000 matches. The referee, who began as a teenager and has appeared at Nottingham Forest, Notts County and Mansfield Town, received the award from FA chair Debbie Hewitt at England's World Cup qualifier. Bevan has refereed 44 games this season after 67 last year, saying he enjoys it more than ever. | Source

🤝 University of Nottingham and Notts County partner to celebrate exceptional local teachers

University of Nottingham's School of Education and Notts County FC celebrated four exceptional teachers at Saturday's home match against Cheltenham Town. Winners Shivani Ladva, Robert Cooper, Dean White and Sian Dimond will receive hospitality at Meadow Lane and be introduced to supporters, with hundreds of free tickets given to their students. The initiative received nearly 1,000 nominations highlighting teachers' impact on pupils' confidence, wellbeing and belonging. Launched amid national teaching recruitment and retention challenges, the partnership leverages sport's popularity among young people to promote education careers while celebrating educators already making a difference locally. | Source

🗳️ Last chance to have your say on local government shake-up

Nottinghamshire residents have until Thursday 26 March to complete the government consultation on replacing nine councils with two new unitary authorities. Three proposals offer different geographical boundaries: Nottingham City's Bii creates urban and rural councils, option 1e splits north-south, while 1b groups Nottingham with Broxtowe and Gedling. The government reports high response numbers and encourages more participation before the consultation closes. Responses will inform the Secretary of State's summer 2026 decision.
