🚌 Paralympian Chris Channon honoured with Nottingham bus naming tribute

Paralympic silver medallist Chris Channon MBE has had a Nottingham City Transport bus named in his honour, recognising his sporting achievements and voluntary work improving emergency services access. Channon competed in the 1980 and 1984 Paralympic Games, winning silver in 10m air rifle, and was appointed MBE in 2001 for voluntary work. He developed the Pegasus scheme with Nottinghamshire Police after experiencing communication difficulties when calling 999 due to his cerebral palsy. The scheme, launched in 2008, gives disabled and vulnerable people special PINs to share information with emergency call handlers in life-or-death situations. Named Police Support Volunteer of the Year in 2014, Channon's scheme has been adopted by several UK police forces. The Lime Line bio-gas bus serves his local area. NCT's Anthony Carver-Smith said Channon deserves recognition for preventing others experiencing similar communication barriers. Congratulations, Chris! | Source

🤝 Local entrepreneurs invited to funding and growth event in October

First Enterprise will host "Unlocking Finance and Growth for Small Businesses" on 8 October 2025 at the Dryden Enterprise Centre as part of Business Finance Week. 🥃 Historic Lace Market buildings redesigned for new city centre bar

Plans to transform Victorian buildings at the corner of Woolpack Lane and Stoney Street in the Lace Market have been altered to focus on a ground-floor bar rather than residential apartments. Perrymead Estates Ltd has requested changes to the approved scheme, replacing upper-floor apartments with office space in the four-storey extension. The curved white structure will house the bar on the ground floor, with design modifications including new windows and panels to suit office use. The development sits within the Lace Market conservation area next to the Angel pub. Architects Marsh:Grochowski said the proposals carefully consider the historic setting while providing contemporary representation of existing Victorian buildings. Nottingham City Council will now consider the application. | Source
