News & Local Business 📍

🏳️‍🌈 Streets around Hockley to be designated LGBTQ+ Rainbow Quarter

Streets around Hockley will officially become Nottingham's Rainbow Quarter LGBTQ+ district, similar to gay villages in Manchester and Birmingham. The area, covering Broad Street, Carlton Street, and Heathcote Street, already has a high density of gay-friendly venues and a history of activism dating back to the 1990s. The project was announced at yesterday’s Notts Pride event by The Pastel Project charity director Sam Harvey, with backing from It's In Nottingham. Plans include historical plaques, updated maps, and collective branding for local businesses. Harvey said official recognition will put Nottingham alongside UK destinations like Manchester and Brighton, attracting new visitors and investment. The project aims to be complete by Pride 2026. | Source

👷‍♂️ £8million Broad Marsh redevelopment enters demolition phase for NHS facility

Demolition work has begun on part of the former Broadmarsh Shopping Centre site as construction starts on a major NHS Community Diagnostic Centre. The project will involve 17 weeks of enabling works running until late November for the CDC opening in late 2026. Part of the Green Heart park pathway will be temporarily closed, with a controlled crossing point established between Lister Gate and the construction site. The facility will provide up to 140,000 appointments annually for MRIs, X-rays and other procedures closer to home than hospital settings, employing 135 staff at full capacity. The CDC is part of the broader Broad Marsh regeneration following Homes England's £8million purchase from Nottingham City Council. The development aims to create 1,000 homes, 20,000 square metres of retail and office space, and 2,000 full-time jobs. | Source

🦆 Attenborough Nature Reserve viewing platform reopens after safety repairs

The raised viewing hide at Attenborough Nature Reserve has reopened following completion of repair works. The wildlife watching platform was closed last year after safety concerns were identified during an inspection. Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust said the revamped structure includes a staircase with longer treads and a shallower incline to improve accessibility for visitors. The bird hide is one of four similar structures at the site used by wildlife enthusiasts to observe animals at the popular nature reserve. | Source

🔎 Mysterious Roman artefact goes on display at University of Nottingham Museum

A rare Gallo-Roman dodecahedron discovered by amateur archaeologists has gone on display at the University of Nottingham Museum at Lakeside Arts until 18 January 2026. The 12-sided hollow object, standing 8cm tall and weighing 245g, was found in remarkable condition at Norton Disney, Lincolnshire, in June 2023. The artefact remains one of archaeology's enigmas as its purpose is unknown and there are no references in Roman texts. It is the only dodecahedron discovered in the Midlands among 33 identified in Britain, and one of 130 found across the former Roman territory of Gaul. The Norton Disney History and Archaeology Group found the object on their second-to-last day of excavation near a Roman villa and the Fosse Way. The discovery featured on Digging for Britain and gained worldwide attention. The free exhibition explores the excavation circumstances and current understanding of these mysterious objects. | Source

Food and Drink 🍽️

The latest and greatest in Nottingham’s awesome food & drink scene.

🍽️ Upscale Japanese restaurant Kinu to open on Low Pavement in October

A new upscale Japanese-Asian restaurant called Kinu will open on Low Pavement in October, promising "opulent luxury" and limitless dining with bespoke cocktails. The restaurant takes its name from the Japanese word for silk, symbolising luxury and elegance. It will occupy the Georgian-style building previously home to Tomahawk Steakhouse, which closed in June 2023 when its lease expired. The site has housed several restaurants including Esculent, Carluccio's, and was the first new restaurant to open when pandemic restrictions eased in July 2020. Low Pavement is developing a great reputation for Asian dining since the relocation of Kushi-ya and the presence of Vietnamese café Boulangerie de Saigon. Kinu has yet to reveal its menu ahead of the October opening but we’ll keep you posted! | Source
