Hockley Hustle celebrates 20 years on Sunday 25 October with 500 acts across 50 Hockley and Sneinton venues – from orchestras in St Mary's Church to drag shows, line dancing flashmobs and grassroots music showcases. Founded in 2006 as an Oxfam fundraiser with seven venues, it's raised £250,000 for 27 local charities. This year aims for £20,000 supporting six local charities. UFO Orchestra headlines with special 20th anniversary guests. Early bird wristbands £15 + booking fee (student concession £10). Full week includes Saturday warm-up and Broadway Cinema exhibition celebrating the festival's history. | Source

Scientists at the British Geological Survey have identified a massive supervolcano beneath The Wash, extending into Norfolk and Lincolnshire. The 65km-wide volcano erupted 454 million years ago with the force of thousands of hydrogen bombs – thousands of times more powerful than Mount Etna. Discovery came from re-examining rock samples taken 80 years ago using new techniques during Covid lockdown. Dr Tim Pharaoh says there's no risk of eruption – extinct volcanoes can't be reactivated. The finding helps piece together England's geological history and understanding of subsurface resources. | Source

The Cross Keys on Byard Lane has reopened after a refresh under new operator Rory Calladine with minority stakeholders from Zeus Bars (31K, Yolk, Skein). Improvements include new TVs, toilets and a smart cellar system keeping beer in peak condition. Birra Moretti is proving most popular alongside five rotating real ales including Castle Rock's Harvest Pale. New food menu covers pub classics – fish and chips, pies, burgers (including mac & cheese with beef dripping) and Sunday roasts. Colourful hanging baskets brighten the exterior.
