💷 £765,000 investment to bring major upgrades to city parks and playgrounds

Nottingham's green spaces are getting a serious cash injection with a £765,000 improvement programme rolling out across the city. The funding comes from the East Midlands Combined County Authority via the UK Government's Shared Prosperity Fund, plus an extra £100,000 from the council. Expect playground upgrades at Colwick Country Park, Locksley Park, Ashton Park and Wallan Street, plus better paths at Woodthorpe Grange Park and Broxtowe Country Park. There's also a "legacy" tree planting scheme introducing larger trees across park sites, and new signage coming to the Arboretum. The full list of planned improvements can be found here.

👏 Three local heroes crowned in Victoria Centre community campaign

Victoria Centre has revealed the winners of its "Heroes of Nottingham" summer campaign, celebrating residents making extraordinary impacts locally. Laura Spies, recently crowned Miss Nottinghamshire Great Britain, scooped recognition for her charity work including £600 raised for Cancer Research UK and support for John Eastwood Hospice. Burton Joyce's Nick Ahmed earned praise for coaching the youth football team he once played for, leading them to two league victories while organising community events. Mark Avison was honored for years of tireless service including running food banks, helping the homeless, and working as a Sherwood Clean Champion. All three winners received £250 gift cards, professional photoshoots, and beauty treatments at John Lewis. | Source

🎨 Sherwood substation gets artistic upgrade after graffiti problem

A Sherwood gas substation covered in offensive graffiti has been given a complete makeover with a beautiful forest mural. Artist Anna Wheelhouse transformed the Danethorpe Road building over three days, replacing unsightly vandalism with proper street art that locals are actually pleased to see. The project started after a resident who'd seen her previous work on the Robin Hood pub approached her about the problem. Cadent Gas funded the transformation, giving their functional site a much more appealing look while keeping gas flowing to the area. | Source

🥪 Japanese sandwich bar brings loaded "sandos" to Hurts Yard

Nottingham's food and bar scene just got another addition with the opening of Local, a new bar offering Japanese-style "sandos" in the city centre. These guys are serving up loaded sandwiches using house-baked milk and brioche bread, featuring everything from katsu pork to Korean fried chicken and miso short rib with beef gravy . The bar has taken over the former Six Richmond House site in Hurts Yard, sporting a stylish refurb and a pool table to create a new spot for students and young professionals.
